| January 31, 2010 Isaiah 53:4-6 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows [Matthew 8:16,17--healings]: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Iniquity--perversity, depravity Transgression--rebellion Wounded--pierce Bruised--crushed Chastisement--discipline, correction Smitten of God--this was all God’s doing, we did not wound Him, God wounded Him because of our iniquity, so we would be put at peace with God. Genesis 2:16,17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. --The real problem is not individual acts of sin, but our sin nature received from Adam. --We do not understand the severity of sin--wages of sin is death, this originated in the Garden. Adam and Eve’s first sin was not abortion, homosexuality, murder, child abuse--it was eating a piece of fruit! Not listening to God in any degree is worthy of death SIN--Faith comes by hearing, whatsoever is not of faith is sin. THE WAGES OF SIN--death, not listening to LIFE results in death --One of Christianity’s problems is our marketing. We come out against certain sins, rather than sin itself. Pet-peeve sins change over the years. We attack a sin rather than sin itself, this damages our outlook and our testimony, it deflects the real issue. Romans 5:14,15 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. 15But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Our relation to Adam is our real trouble! Also a problem God had to work around. It was the seed of the woman who would come to crush Satan--Genesis 3:15 --Sacrifice has to be human--blood of bulls and goats cannot remove sin. If sin passes through the --Sacrifice has to be perfect--if sin is passed through the father, the human must be born without what? A father--virgin birth. 1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 2 Corinthians 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. 1 Timothy 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. 1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 Thessalonians 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. Romans 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Our sin demands God’s wrath. It will be poured out on you for eternity unless you believe that Christ took it for you. If the substitutionary atonement is not true, then we are on our own. Works, church, baptism, teaching Sunday school, taking care of old ladies will not save you; only Christ can. |
